Code of Conduct

The Orthoplastic Limb Preservation Society (“OLPS,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is committed to maintaining a professional, collaborative, and ethical environment for all members, contributors, and participants. This Code of Conduct (“Code”) outlines the standards of behavior expected of all individuals who engage with OLPS platforms, events, communications, or educational programs. Membership in OLPS is a privilege and reflects a shared responsibility to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and respect for patients and peers.

 
1. Purpose

This Code is intended to: promote ethical and professional behavior among OLPS members; encourage constructive collaboration and exchange of knowledge; protect patient privacy and maintain public trust; ensure that the Society’s educational and research activities reflect its mission of excellence in limb preservation and orthoplastic care.

 
2. Applicability

This Code applies to all individuals who: apply for or hold OLPS membership, participate in OLPS events, forums, discussions, or research collaborations, contribute content, case studies, or materials to the OLPS website, or represent OLPS in any professional or public capacity.

 
3. Core Principles

OLPS members are expected to uphold the following values in all activities:

  1. Professional Integrity: Act with honesty, fairness, and accountability in all professional and academic endeavors.

  2. Respect and Collaboration: Treat all colleagues, students, patients, and peers with dignity and respect, regardless of background, specialty, or level of training.

  3. Commitment to Excellence: Strive for continuous learning, innovation, and contribution to the field of orthoplastic and limb preservation medicine.

  4. Confidentiality: Protect all confidential and patient-related information shared through OLPS platforms.

  5. Ethical Leadership: Lead by example and promote ethical decision-making within the community.

 
4. Professional Conduct

Members shall:

  • Conduct themselves in a manner that upholds the reputation and mission of OLPS;

  • Maintain collegial and respectful interactions in all communications and collaborations;

  • Avoid disruptive, harassing, or discriminatory behavior;

  • Accurately represent their qualifications, credentials, and affiliations;

  • Avoid conflicts of interest or disclose them promptly when they arise;

  • Use OLPS platforms and resources solely for educational, professional, and research-related purposes;

  • Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and institutional standards governing clinical practice and research.

 
5. Patient Confidentiality and HIPAA Compliance

OLPS members must strictly adhere to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and applicable state privacy laws when sharing or discussing patient information. Members are required to:

  • Obtain written consent using the OLPS Patient Consent Form before sharing any identifiable case material;

  • De-identify all patient information whenever possible;

  • Avoid uploading or distributing patient photographs, imaging, or documents that include identifying data unless authorized by written consent;

  • Refrain from discussing patient-specific details outside of authorized OLPS platforms;

  • Immediately report any suspected privacy or confidentiality breach to oplpreserve@gmail.com.

 

Failure to comply with HIPAA or this Code’s confidentiality standards may result in disciplinary action, including suspension or termination of membership.

 
6. Case Discussions and Educational Material

Members are encouraged to share educational content and clinical experiences to advance the field responsibly. All shared materials must:

  • Be accurate, evidence-based, and relevant to orthoplastic and limb preservation care;

  • Include appropriate citations or references when referencing data, studies, or images;

  • Exclude promotional content, product advertising, or marketing language;

  • Respect the proprietary rights of other contributors and organizations.

 
7. Interactions and Communication

To maintain a constructive and inclusive environment, members shall:

  • Engage in discussions with civility and professionalism;

  • Avoid defamatory, inflammatory, or discriminatory remarks;

  • Welcome differing perspectives respectfully;

  • Report any harassment, threats, or misconduct through the OLPS administrative contact.

 
8. Social Media and Public Representation

Members representing OLPS on social media or in public communications must:

  • Present information accurately and in alignment with OLPS’s mission;

  • Avoid making claims, endorsements, or statements on behalf of OLPS without authorization;

  • Maintain professional decorum and confidentiality when referencing cases or collaborations.

 

Unauthorized or misleading use of the OLPS name or logo may result in disciplinary action.

 
9. Conflict of Interest

Members must disclose any real or perceived conflicts of interest, including financial relationships with vendors, industry representatives, or institutions that could influence their participation in OLPS activities. Disclosures should be made to the OLPS administrative team for review and transparency.

 
10. Research and Educational Integrity

OLPS supports ethical research and publication practices. Members must:

  • Present data truthfully and avoid fabrication, falsification, or plagiarism;

  • Properly credit collaborators and contributors;

  • Disclose any funding sources or sponsorships related to shared content.

 
11. Violations and Disciplinary Action

Violation of this Code may result in corrective or disciplinary measures, including but not limited to:

  • Written warning or notice of concern;

  • Temporary suspension of membership privileges;

  • Permanent termination of membership or removal from OLPS platforms.

 

OLPS reserves the right to take immediate action for serious breaches involving patient confidentiality, harassment, discrimination, or professional misconduct.

 
12. Reporting Concerns

Members or visitors who observe or experience behavior inconsistent with this Code may report concerns confidentially to: oplpreserve@gmail.com

 

Reports will be reviewed promptly, fairly, and in accordance with OLPS policies. Retaliation against individuals who report violations in good faith is strictly prohibited.

 
13. Acknowledgment and Compliance

By applying for or maintaining membership in OLPS, or by participating in OLPS activities, you agree to abide by this Code of Conduct. Compliance with this Code is a condition of continued membership and participation in OLPS programs.
