About the Society

A society at the intersection of orthopedics and plastic surgery.

Founded on a simple conviction — that limb salvage is not the domain of any single specialty, but the meeting of many.

I · Foreword

The Orthoplastic Limb Preservation Society — known internationally as the World Orthoplastic Society — was founded on a simple conviction: that limb salvage is not the domain of any single specialty. It is the meeting of many.

For decades, the orthoplastic approach has transformed outcomes in the most difficult cases of lower extremity trauma, chronic infection, oncologic reconstruction, and diabetic limb disease. What once required amputation is now, increasingly, reconstructed and restored.

Our Society exists to formalize that collaboration, to connect patients with the expertise they need, and to recognize the surgeons and teams whose work is quietly redefining what is possible.

II · Vision & Mission

What we are working toward.

i. Our Vision

A world in which every patient facing limb-threatening disease has a coordinated team.

That every patient facing limb-threatening injury or disease has access to a coordinated, multidisciplinary orthoplastic team — regardless of geography or institutional resources.

ii. Our Mission

Connect patients, empower professionals, recognize excellence.

To advance the art and science of limb preservation through collaboration, education, and the recognition of those whose work shapes the field.

III · Core Values

What guides our work.

01

Collaboration

We believe the best outcomes come from teams, not individuals — orthopedic and plastic surgeons working shoulder to shoulder from the first consultation.

02

Integrity

Our recommendations, recognitions, and educational content are held to the highest standards of evidence and professional ethics.

03

Access

We work to make expert limb preservation care visible and reachable, especially for patients who would otherwise face amputation.

IV · Planned Initiatives

Where the Society is going.

While the immediate focus is on establishing foundational membership, educational resources, and collaborative forums, several major initiatives are already in planning to expand the Society’s mission and global impact.

01 · Planned

OLPS Open-Access Journal

We aim to launch an open-access, peer-reviewed journal dedicated to orthoplastic and limb preservation medicine. This publication will highlight cutting-edge clinical research, surgical innovations, case reports, and interdisciplinary perspectives from around the world.

02 · Planned

International Medical Missions

In the future, OLPS plans to organize focused international medical missions that provide limb preservation care and reconstructive surgery to underserved regions. These missions will also serve as training opportunities for surgeons and allied professionals dedicated to humanitarian orthoplastic care.

03 · Planned

Educational Partnerships & Conferences

OLPS is developing future partnerships with educational institutions, professional societies, and surgical conferences to promote academic collaboration, hands-on learning, and the global exchange of clinical expertise.

04 · Planned

Research and Clinical Collaboration Network

We envision creating an international network for multi-institutional research, case data sharing, and outcome tracking to advance the science of limb preservation and reconstruction.
