Code of Conduct.
Members are expected to uphold the highest standards of professional integrity, clinical ethics, and collegial respect.
Purpose
This Code aims to advance ethical professional conduct among OLPS members, foster constructive knowledge exchange, safeguard patient privacy and public confidence, and ensure educational activities reflect the Society’s mission of excellence in limb preservation.
Applicability
These requirements extend to those who seek or maintain membership, attend OLPS events or forums, contribute materials to platforms, or publicly represent the organization.
Core Principles
Members must demonstrate:
- Professional Integrity — operating with honesty, fairness, and accountability in all professional and academic endeavors.
- Respect & Collaboration — extending dignity to colleagues, trainees, and patients across all backgrounds and expertise levels.
- Commitment to Excellence — pursuing continuous learning and the advancement of the field.
- Confidentiality — protecting sensitive information exchanged through Society channels.
- Ethical Leadership — modeling principled decision-making and promoting ethical conduct.
Professional Conduct
Members shall uphold the Society’s reputation through collegial interactions, avoid disruptive or discriminatory behavior, accurately represent credentials, promptly disclose conflicts, restrict platform use to professional purposes, and comply with applicable laws and institutional standards.
Patient Confidentiality & HIPAA Compliance
Requirements include:
- Obtaining written consent via OLPS forms before sharing identifiable cases
- De-identifying information when feasible
- Prohibiting unauthorized distribution of patient photos or documents
- Restricting case discussions to approved forums
- Immediately reporting suspected breaches to oplpreserve@gmail.com
Violations may trigger suspension or termination.
Case Discussions & Educational Material
Shared materials must be accurate and evidence-based, properly cited, free from promotional language, and respectful of contributor intellectual property rights.
Interactions & Communication
Members engage civilly, avoiding defamatory or discriminatory language, welcoming differing viewpoints respectfully, and reporting harassment through administrative channels.
Public Representation & Communications
Members presenting information publicly must ensure accuracy aligned with the Society’s mission, avoid unauthorized statements on the Society’s behalf, and maintain professional confidentiality standards.
Conflict of Interest
Members must disclose financial relationships with vendors, industry contacts, or institutions that could influence participation.
Research & Educational Integrity
Members present data honestly, avoid fabrication or plagiarism, properly credit contributors, and disclose funding sources.
Violations & Disciplinary Action
Breaches may result in written warnings, temporary suspension of privileges, or permanent termination of membership. The Society reserves authority for immediate action regarding confidentiality violations, harassment, discrimination, or professional misconduct.
Reporting Concerns
Individuals observing problematic conduct may report confidentially to oplpreserve@gmail.com. Reviews occur promptly and fairly, with retaliation against good-faith reporters strictly prohibited.
Acknowledgment & Compliance
Membership application or participation constitutes agreement to uphold this Code, which remains a condition of continued involvement.
